MLA Style Guide: Citing Websites

Things to Include

Works Cited Page

  • Author and/or editor names (if available); last names first.
  • "Article name in quotation marks."
  • Title of the website, project, or book in italics.
  • Publisher information, including the publisher name and publishing date.
  • URL (without the https://) or permalink.
  • Date you accessed the material (Date Accessed). *While not required, saving this information is highly recommended, especially when dealing with pages that change frequently or do not have a visible copyright date.
  • Citations with more than one line of text should have a hanging indent of 1/2 inch or 5 spaces.

In-Text Citations

  • Include in the text the first item that appears in the Work Cited entry that corresponds to the citation (e.g. author name, article name, website name, film name).

Author (last name, first name). "Title of Page." Title of Website, Publisher (if different then website name), Publication Date, URL. Date of Access (if applicable).
